Late Night Performance Event

Saturday 28 May 22:00 – 03:00
location: DE PLAYER IV, Tolhuisstraat 107 BG, Katendrecht, Rotterdam

featuring:
Frieder Butzman (DE)
Stephanie Pan (US)
Charlemagne Palestine (US)
Pete Um (UK)
Gerard Herman (BE)
EARR (various)

Frieder Butzmann’s ingenuity and innovative music continue to dumbfound his audiences. Butzmann composes operas of found sound, creates film music, lectures and writes books.

Charlemagne Palestine is a very influential experimental American musician, composer, performer and visual artist. He combines his musical activities with shamanistic performances that often include cognac, kretek cigarettes and stuffed animals as recurring images.

Stephanie Pan is a singer and performance artist who specializes in elaborate vocal techniques and live improvisations. The notion of pure communication, especially when she makes contact with her audience, forms the foundation of her work.

As long as Pete Um’s mini-disc player isn’t letting him down on stage, this erudite, Cambridge poet can prove he is a born entertainer who treads his own path through the electro-dadaistic pop landscape.

The young, upcoming Gerard Herman has already proven his worth as a tape poet with his unrivalled contemporary feel for abstract jazz rhythms and experimental sound poetry.

The contemporary EARR (Ensemble Artists Repertoire & Research) art ensemble, under the direction of the Belgian jazz musician Eric Thielemans, presents “Songbook,” a genre-transgressing database of sounds, songs, musical pieces, body gestures, scenic objects, texts and other visual material that leads to the creation of “songs.”

Featuring: Claron McFadden (soprano), Jorgen Cassier (vocals), Jean-Yves Evrard (guitar), Peter Jacquemyn (contrabass), Hilary Jeffery (trombone), Jozef Dumoulin (piano), Eric Thielemans (percussion, musical direction), and Ilan Manouach (comic artist).
