An Appeal   6 comments

Hey guys,

ha, floppy own-brand tortilla chips, peanuts and Lilt and vodka (just a very small medical dash for my damaged tropical child) for breakfast. Happy New Year. Can’t sleep so let my betters rest. A guitar string just pinged on the wall so I must be Accompanied.

I don’t know if you use Discogs but I do and I like it. I’m not one of those psychedelic revolutionaries that acts like a soul-smarm priest who’s pretending he hasn’t got anything in his underpants. I have baby, it’s here. I believe in the meta-fundamentals of the market. I believe in the Big Deal, it is holy to me. If a has it, and b wants it, then so be it and let’s haggle the fucker across. We are good creatures, don’t get me wrong, and people forget it and then get all pious when someone helps a brother out as if it isn’t written into us like hunger, violence and sorrow, but in that sense humans are alright and can’t help but help. Ants help ants, wolves howl for the chase, Biiiig Issue etc. Yeah, but fuck the Old Ways and Record Collector and that. My The Best Of Abba used to say £40 in the Book, but, uh, the internets is grease for human souls and the funny thing about capitalism, cos all human history is irony, is that which is finessed is also almost complete & thus over, man. What I mean is the web is The Final Auction, and that goes for eBay as much as Tahrir square or whatever. OK.

So, if you’re still with me, or ever were, then here is a racing tip for the lowest common denominator written on a peice of internet paper. Our pal Si, you shall know him by his name up there, has got at least one copy of Tripel 004 going at £2. Now I don’t cast aspersions on Simon, because of what I’ve said above, and because he is someone who both likes to live simply and also used to run an online shop, and since the two are incompatible the former will inevitably win out over the latter, thank goodness fror his sake. Tripel 004?, I hear you ask in your unripe foolishness, like dogs questioning the unlikely appearance of the Ace in the great fucking help of the sleight of hand! Well, way back when when there was no history of that to make a mad old man tell it like this now, yer Dave, my fucking Dave, in his Gold-souled wish for something more meaningful than what’s measured in money, stumped up for the Split. A thousand fucking pounds. Mastered by the fucking Faroe Goodiepal on a reel-to-reel (he says) according to his special specifications. Dubplates & Mastering. A picture disc. Designed by Animals On Wheels. Me half-cut in an amusment arcade in Padstow throwing it down like a Maori warrior or some PNG shit. It’s all fucking grist. Two Thousand & Five, Dave on the concrete tip, the audio derive through the raw tripped-out beauty of sound, where even TV cookshows can get souffled into something just-so that the absence of words leaves your dumb face in a squinch whilst your mind races for HELP. You know James Ferraro? Well, it’s not like that music-wise but it isn’t just the chefs. I feel this strongly. There’s a blankness, an overloadedness of symbols, that was in the recipe. Play the records side by side. Mix them together perhaps. And yeah, it’s half a giraffe of probably the best thing I ever did or will. I’m on Discogs, and you can buy the CD-R off me for not-a-penny-less than 5 quid, and it might be the complete thing, but that record is All Gold, solid fucking gold, and the only reason you don’t know it is because nobody told you, but I’m telling you now.

So, what I’m asking you to do, is please buy the record off Simon. I think the market value is more like £4.50, at least, so you’d be getting a good deal. We still live under a capitalist system, but this is a time of renewal, traditionally. Why not make it your first symbolic purchase of 2012? Please.

Thankyou,

Pete

NOCHEXXX – Smashing Your System, Werk

Forever keeping heads on their toes, Werk Records dash this curveball from the brilliant Nochexxx and marmite MC extraordinaire, Sensational, into our path. We really don’t know what the f*ck is going on with ‘Smashing Your System’, it’s like a folder full of Philip Jeck, Throbbing Gristle and Anti Pop Consortium has been corrupted with live protein enzymes, resulting in one confounding bit of beaten oddness. ‘Sinbliss’ is a little easier to grasp, if a mesh of Belgian New Beat with swampy Dub subs and the most disjointed MC in the business is nothing out of the ordinary to you. For us it’s one of the best WTF moments we’ve had in months. Fans of V/Vm and High Priest, it’s all yours!

Was mixing my drinks last night, with way more herbal teas than standard. Green tea, peppermint, cammomile. crashed out about 2AM after viewing the enjoyable Royal Tennenbaums with my hand on the volume knob all the way through. I could watch Gene Hackman all day. Awoke sweating after vivid dream just after 4. Dream was in the style of sophisticated and modish American TV program about a military unit engaged in jungle warfare, like a more humid version of Generation Kill. Woke up silently screaming – being pursued by guys in headscarves swarming down a hill. Outside it was a muggy, misty East Anglia.Felix’s thing was fun, although I have some regrets. They are:

Should have taken more pictures because it was hard to take a bad one, especially at the party.
Wish Felix DJed the 7″ singles he asked us all to bring (one each was stipulated, although I brought about 6 and Dave brought 3), or maybe even asked me and Dave to DJ, although he probably doesn’t know quite how talented we are in that regard. He certainly didn’t know I had brought my MP3 player with minijack to RCA phono adaptors just in case.
I regret being totally fucking partied out by about 1.30AM, thereby not getting to actually talk that much to people.
I regret telling Mariola’s daughter that she sounded like her Mum. What I meant was that I’d been trying to discern evidence of her maternal origins all evening and suddenly I caught a glimpse in her manner, in a sudden intensity of expression. Even Bobby, who isn’t synonymous with propriety, was more or less aghast at this gauche error.

Treated Belgium and London as one long holiday and I’m a little tired and bored of myself now. I’m sure burning the candle on and off uses more wax or something. Anyway, you lot babysit the apocalypse for a bit. I’m getting an early night.

Mike Polar in Munich   Leave a comment

This dude Mr Mike Polar, some friend of Thimitris’, contacted me to tell me he was intending to see me play in Munchen, so him and his buddy travel from..uh… Hanover, I think. I was a bit suspicious of such singlemindedness, to be honest, but when I met Mike and his friend they turned out to be extremely pleasant and intelligent individuals. Anyway, here’s some snaps Mike took:

And here’s a nice picture of me and Mike. He’s holding a copy of Bumskipper 5, which in turn has a photo of our mutual friend Thimitris, aka Dimitri aka Dans Mon Salon with everybody’s pal Mr Richard D James.

He’s also taken the time to upload some footage to YouTube. I haven’t watched all of it because what I have looks quite considerably worse than the memories I have but ain’t that just the way, especially with the good gigs.

Tripel 004 Clocks for sale. While stocks last!   1 comment

It’s true that the current economic meltdown has caused many to look for more secure ways of hanging onto their money, but if you wanted to invest in something of real lasting intrinsic value then look no further than this auction up on Ebay. My pal and fellow Meta DJ Nochexxx has knocked up some Limited Edition clocks to celebrate the existence of a few hundred copies of Tripel 004 under his bed. Like, you can’t tell the time with a Krugerand boyeee!

This is how Nochexxx himself has it on the page:

“Due to recent resurgence in popularity tripel records have decided to press ultra limited quantities (5 of each) of bespoke pete um / ascoltare clocks. once sold this limited edition art object of tripel lp 004 will never be pressed again! we have advertised this item at a buy-it-now price of £1000 (this is the value of the item which we believe to be true), however we are open to the gaeoudjiparl bartering system! that is to say you are welcome to offer us a price you think is a true reflection of such an artifact. good hunting and rah to those who choose to ignore the current economic crisis! “

German interview translation for laffs   1 comment

Just in case you missed Nochexxx’s translation (presumably using an online translator thingy) posted in the comments box underneath the Hamburg interviewI’ll post it again here. I’m sure I said absolutely nothing of interest at the time.

is not now yet at all so for a long time ago that Mister Pete published the album “new Pressure” over on Gagarin record. And one hardly provides, stands themselves already the suitable label route before the entry door and the Britisher honoured completely Europe, for three concerts also Germany. In the course its we met Pete in Hamburg before the concert to a discussion over past, future and the role of the music in its life and the life of others. You are at present echo ill with ergo Phizmiz and on the Gagarin records Anniversary – route. How were the shows in Frankfurt and Berlin? Pete: That was really great! Even if always each appearance cannot be mad, in these cases was it like that. It makes also fun to be with both other volume on the way that is mad people and then brings sowas large joy. Do many people come to the concerts? Pete: In Berlin to the end many spectators were real! But the show began relatively so early, so that it is logical that the people needed one while, in order to appear itself there. In Frankfurt were still not in the comparison so many, but enough. The club, in which took place, in addition, was smaller a whole corner, therefore that was really acceptable. Did you play already once in Hamburg? Pete: Yes, that is already one while ago. But the public pleases me here much, that is a really interesting mixture from different humans in this city. Hamburg always particularly is. Does the music of your two route partners actually please you? Pete: In any case! Ergo Phizmiz know I already longer personally, therefore me its music was anyway already common and I always found it to super. Echo-ill I did not know before yet, but those also convinced me. Fantasti Live shows, full spontaneous elements, very anarchisch. Your new album “new Pressure” came out recently on Gagarin record. Can you tell us somewhat about it? Pete: The album consists partially of old and partially of completely new pieces, so that it falls me heavily to have there a neutral perspective drauf. But the plate looks beautiful! The Cover was arranged madly and I is pleased about the fact that the plate rauskommt with Gagarin record. Felix Kubin cobbled together the plate, made he the TRACK selection. Many my song are very short and it made certain that also some on the album found longer their way. The album would differently have felt with security, if I had made the selection. I am glad over the fact that he seized there me under the arms! And how the plate arrived in the public, review-technically…? Pete: Throughout positively! To a large extent the texts were rather short, but although, it did not participate one, which stamped “new Pressure” as failed. How was it added that you found your place with Gagarin record? Works for me somewhat unusually, since that is a German label. Pete: That came in such a way: Friends of me are Promoter and brought Felix, to who the label belongs, to Great Britain, in order to play there. And I was allowed to play the Eröffnungsshow for it in the evening and him pleased, what there I delivered. Thus it was added then that it brought me to Europe and organized also shows in Germany for me. And after we thought then a whole time long about an album, is it now so far that it could be finally published. Your music is relatively special. Which is more important for you: Humans reach, or even with that contently its, which one created? Pete: Naturally I would lie, if I said that it is not to me because of the heart that the music pleases also different humans than me. But if I would design it really to reach humans then I would convert that, which whispers the mass to me in the ear: Longer ones of song produce and konventionellere Songstrukturen create. Thus it is probably of both something. Is there a difference between the kind, how you make today music and how you made early music? Pete: I definitely constantly change. You learn your conception of the kind, as you want to make music, in the course of the time to it and change. But it is still the same operational sequence, it always was and remains probably always Rough& Ready. I read that you took up in former times only with Tape recorders. Was that, because you did not have other technical possibilities, or because the sound pleased you better? Pete: Both. My computer often fell, so that no other choice remained frequent for me, than changing back Tape recorders. But if you are then first times thereby, you notice also, how your music changes with the recording technology. The feeling is another, if you work with 4-Track-Tapes. That is a function, which assures to me much. Quick and spontaneous actions. And the sound is simply unmistakable, a mad sound. But if one works with the computer, then those of song have simply a better structure and one have a better overview of what actually makes there. On your homepage I saw that you are active as draughtsmen and writers also. Do you make something professional of it? Pete: Everything that I make in such a way, is like a large hobby. It would never ring someone at my door and to me to money for the fact would offer that I draw something for it. Would be beautifully, if that happens times, but at present is drawing simply a hobby for me, faraway any professionalism. And would you say that music making for you is also hobby? Pete: It does not make me no rich humans, I can of it not live, the music pays me a rent and no calculations. But it is simply a large fun. And so long it one makes happy, is only worthwhile. My life is not generally like a large hobby, I attaches importance on correct jobs. Even what vocational I make, brings me fun, therefore fits well into the raster. Everything clearly. Thank you for the interview! Pete: I have to thank!
